What a Trip to Guadalupe Valley Costs: A Real Budget with Flight, Driver, Hotel and Tastings
Flight to Tijuana, car or driver, lobster, hotel, tastings and dinners: what it costs to visit Guadalupe Valley in 2026, with dated prices and sources.

The bill for a Baja California wine trip starts far from the first glass: at an airline counter, at a Tijuana car rental desk and in a room that in August gets booked months ahead. If you are wondering how much it costs to go to Guadalupe Valley from central or southern Mexico, the short answer is this: three days and two nights from Mexico City come to about 7,600 to 13,400 pesos per person in a double room on a tight budget, 16,200 to 27,600 on a comfortable one, 30,300 to 44,600 on a high-end one and 35,800 to more than 77,000 when the hotel charges for the night in four-figure dollars.
The previous version of this guide gave lower figures and did not count the airfare. Every price was checked on October 2, 2026 on the business's own site, on comparison sites or in 2026 press, and we say which. What is charged in dollars is also given in pesos, at the Banco de México FIX exchange rate of October 1, 2026: 18.07 pesos per dollar. Dollar amounts are US dollars.
These are references for planning, and where a house does not publish a price, we say so. Cities and Wines of Mexico does not take reservations. On each place's page you can ask for its contact details.
How much is a flight to Tijuana from Mexico City, Monterrey or the southeast?
You cannot fly commercially to Ensenada: its El Ciprés airfield has no regular commercial flights, and the entry point is Tijuana International Airport, about 65 miles (105 km) from the middle of the valley. These are round-trip fares per person, in the basic fare, seen on October 2, 2026 on Kayak, Google Flights, Expedia and Skyscanner:
- Mexico City (AICM): the average for the last twelve months on Kayak is 3,123 pesos, and Aeroméxico starts at $241 (4,355 pesos). On Google Flights, the lowest fares usually run from 1,300 to 2,200 pesos in February, the cheapest month, and from 2,850 to 6,800 in December, the most expensive. On October 2, the cheapest was 2,447. Volaris, Viva and Aeroméxico sell the route, with about 115 direct flights a week.
- Mexico City (AIFA): Viva flies direct from Santa Lucía, with one-way fares from 1,399 pesos. The round trip starts at about 2,800.
- Monterrey: direct, a flight of almost three hours. The round trip appears from 2,031 pesos, and BestDay gives averages of 2,161 pesos in the cheapest month to 2,926 in the most expensive.
- Guadalajara: 2,100 to 2,300 pesos round trip on Viva and Aeroméxico.
- Cancún: direct flights on Viva and Volaris, four to five hours. From 2,787 pesos.
- Mérida: there is a direct flight. Viva appears from 2,996 pesos for late November.
- Tuxtla Gutiérrez: Volaris flies direct on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The round trip runs from 3,786 pesos on Viva to 4,465 on Volaris.
- Villahermosa: we did not find a direct flight or a fare we could confirm. Get a quote with a connection.
These are floor prices. Without hunting for deals you pay something close to the Kayak average, 3,123 pesos from Mexico City, and in high season (August, according to Kayak, December, according to Google Flights) the lowest fare of the day can reach 6,800. For the southeast we found no averages, so take those figures as a floor and watch the fare from weeks ahead.
The suitcase changes the bill if you are coming back with bottles. Since November 20, 2025, Volaris's Basic fare includes a 33 lb (15 kg) bag checked at the counter. A 55 lb (25 kg) bag costs up to 1,500 pesos with the ticket and up to 1,800 afterward. On Viva, in 2025, moving up to 25 kg cost about 600 pesos online and 1,000 to 1,150 at the airport.
Is it better to rent a car or hire a driver in Guadalupe Valley?
One rule governs both options: whoever is going to taste does not drive. The car gives you the freedom to head down the coast and stop at Puerto Nuevo. The driver solves the tasting days and the ride back from dinners.
The rental car. It is expensive, and the comparison site does not give the total. At Tijuana airport, Kayak showed on October 2, 2026 an average of 433 pesos a day at Dollar and 482 at Avis, with base fares from 168. At the counter, the liability insurance that Mexican law requires is added. Alamo, on its Tijuana airport page, charges it at about $10 a day (181 pesos), and if you decline it with your own policy it holds another $2,500 on your card (about 45,000 pesos). So an economy car comes to 420 to 720 pesos a day without covering damage to the car. With full coverage and zero deductible, the agencies that publish the complete price start at 650 pesos a day (City Car Rental) and at $57 (1,030 pesos) at VIP Cars, and MEX Rent a Car asks for a deposit from 1,500 pesos. Three days of an economy car with everything cost 1,950 to 3,090 pesos. An SUV raises the bill: at Dollar, the Duster started at 503 pesos a day, the Kicks at 603 and the X-Trail at 941, before coverage.
Availability. In August, during the harvest festival and on long holiday weekends, the airport fleet gets booked early. Reserve the car when you buy the flight and bring a credit card for the deposit.
The Tijuana-Ensenada scenic toll road (La Escénica) charges 152 pesos each way for a car, across three toll booths, since April 13, 2026. Magna gasoline was 21 to 23 pesos a liter, so about 185 miles (300 km) in three days cost 500 to 600 pesos (our calculation, at about 28 mpg, or 12 km per liter).
The driver. It is the responsible way to spend a day among wineries, with prices that the companies themselves publish:
- With a vehicle, inside the valley: the operator BajaViajes charges from 5,000 pesos for 10 hours or 50 miles (80 km), in a sedan, van or bus. Its full day from Tijuana, with gas, tolls and insurance, starts at 4,200.
- From the border: Ensenada Excursions & Tours lists $187 for a car with 1 to 3 passengers (3,379 pesos), $287 for a minivan with 4 to 7 (5,186) and $427 for an Urvan with 8 to 13 (7,716). Ask how many hours are included.
- Airport to the valley: BajaViajes charges from 3,900 pesos per vehicle for the direct transfer, which takes about two hours. On booking platforms there are private transfers from $168 (3,034 pesos) for up to three people.
- A driver for your rental car: few companies publish a rate. We saw a 10-hour driver-guide for 2,040 pesos, without being able to confirm whether it includes a vehicle. Ask for the quote in writing.
- Shared tour: BajaViajes sells day tours from downtown Tijuana at 1,700 to 2,100 pesos per person, with three tastings, and one that adds Puerto Nuevo from 1,999.
A 5,000-peso driver comes to 2,500 per person between two and 1,250 between four, and nobody has to skip tasting. Uber works to get there. Its estimator gives an average of 1,314 pesos from Tijuana to Francisco Zarco. Inside the valley there are few cars and stretches without signal, so do not count on it to get back at night. What to ask when you hire a driver is in our guide to touring the wine route without driving.
Tip
If you will take turns at the wheel, decide the night before who does not taste the next day, and do not change it halfway through the route.
How much does lobster cost in Puerto Nuevo?
Puerto Nuevo, at the km 44.5 marker of the free (non-toll) Tijuana-Ensenada highway, south of Rosarito, is a town of more than thirty restaurants that live off fried lobster, served with rice, beans, salsa and flour tortillas, on the way if you come down the coast.
Lobster is priced by size, which in practice means by weight. On the menu that Villa Ortega's publishes online, the small one, 1 lb, costs 625 pesos and the extra large, 1.75 lb, 860, with rice, beans and tortillas. The lobster cream soup is 320. That menu has no date and we could not confirm it with the restaurant, so take it as a reference. In reviews of other restaurants in town, plates appear at 380 to 780 pesos per lobster, depending on size and how close the table is to the water.
- Per person: 625 to 860 pesos per lobster with sides, plus a drink and tip.
- For two, with a 10 to 15% tip: 1,375 to 1,980 pesos before drinks.
- Off season: the lobster may be frozen. Ask before ordering.
How much does it cost to sleep in the valley, from an Airbnb to a luxury resort?
These are prices per night and per room, seen on October 2, 2026 on each hotel's site or on booking platforms. In Baja California the lodging tax is 5% at hotels and platforms, according to the state's 2026 Revenue Law (Ley de Ingresos), plus 16% IVA (value-added tax). Many dollar rates are shown without them, so add about 21%.
- Ensenada: rooms from about 665 pesos on comparison sites, in exchange for 16 miles (25 km) each way and for working out who drives back.
- Simple, in the valley: we did not find a roadside motel with a profile and a price we could confirm. The Hotel Otero, in San Antonio de las Minas, appears from 1,800 pesos on one booking site and at $82 to $112 (1,482 to 2,024 pesos) on regular dates.
- Airbnb: its valley pages give for 2026 an average of $120 (2,168 pesos) for a cabin in August and $151 (2,728) for a house, before cleaning, fees and taxes. The cheapest start at $40 to $60.
- Glamping: Casa Misiones Glamping, in San Antonio de las Minas, lists its safari tents at 3,980 pesos plus taxes, with a Monday to Thursday promotion in 2026 from 1,890.
- Boutique in the valley: Santulan, an adults-only bed & breakfast at Rancho San Marcos, $131 to $184 (2,367 to 3,325 pesos). La Villa del Valle, the six-room inn above Vena Cava, $190 to $310 with breakfast (3,433 to 5,601), with a two-night minimum on weekends.
- Winery hotel or spa hotel: Hacienda Guadalupe, $146 to $206 (2,638 to 3,722 pesos). Cuatro Cuatros, in El Sauzal, $188 to $232 before taxes (3,397 to 4,192). Contemplación Resort & Spa, $211 to $626 (3,813 to 11,311). Encuentro Guadalupe, with a tasting included according to its profile, $328 to $515 (5,927 to 9,306). And the hotel at El Cielo winery, $351 to $655 in October and November, before taxes (6,342 to 11,835).
- Luxury: at the Bruma estate, rooms appear on platforms at $175 to $346 (3,162 to 6,252 pesos), and a luxury hotel guide lists $500 to $1,000 with breakfast (9,035 to 18,069) for Casa 8, which is rented only as a whole, and Casa Montaña.
- Ultra-premium: the Banyan Tree Veya resort appears from $352 on low dates and from $599 (10,823 pesos) in luxury guides. One of them lists $500 to $2,500 with taxes (up to 45,173 pesos), depending on the villa and the day. In its large villas, a night goes past $1,000.
Which wineries have rooms, and what each one offers, is in our guide to vineyard hotels. In August the room is the first thing to get booked. The best time to visit Guadalupe Valley crosses weather and demand month by month.
How much do tastings at wineries cost?
The entry-level tasting now runs from 250 to about 660 pesos per person, and guided experiences go past a thousand. These are the prices the houses publish or that the press collected in 2026:
- L.A. Cetto winery: its site lists the Clásica tasting at 250 pesos, the Reserva Privada at 400 and the Boutique at 550, each with four wines. The Experiencia Cetto, with seven wines, a private tour, terrace and boards, is 1,800 pesos and lasts about three hours.
- Viñas de Garza: at its terrace bar, four whites and rosés for 360 pesos or four reds for 520, with no cheese or tour. It opens Friday to Sunday, and daily for two weeks in August.
- Decantos Vinícola: according to its menu, three wines for 350 pesos and five for 650, with a minimum of six people. The tour with the winemaker through the underground cellar is 1,100, for groups of eight or more. Infobae reported it in May 2026 from 260.
- The Monte Xanic winery: Infobae published tastings of 433 to 658 pesos in May 2026. On its site, experiences run from 1,350 pesos, for groups of 12 to 20, to 3,400 for the Mieles tasting and 3,700 for the Gran Ricardo one, for four or more.
- El Cielo: the wagon ride with a three-wine tasting sells for $42 with taxes (759 pesos), and its experience called Un día en el cielo (A Day in the Sky), for 2,890 pesos.
- Other houses: Infobae published tastings from 250 pesos at Casa Magoni, 295 to 346 at Don Tomás and 310 to 433 at Villa Montefiori.
At Vena Cava, La Lomita, Las Nubes and Hacienda Guadalupe we did not find a current price. It is quoted when you book. Which ones ask for a reservation and how far ahead is covered in another guide.
A day fits two tastings, three at most, in the same zone. With tastings of 250 to 550 pesos, where most are, the day costs 500 to 1,650 per person. If one is a guided experience, add 1,100 to 1,800.
How much do you spend on food, from breakfast to the tasting menu dinner?
Breakfasts with a view and with a line. La Cocina de Doña Esthela, at Rancho San Marcos, has a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide Mexico 2026, takes no reservations and closes on Mondays. It does not publish prices. Reviews place it under $25 per person (about 450 pesos), with waits of up to two hours on weekends. With a reservation and a view of the valley, Salvia Blanca, the restaurant at Contemplación, opens from 8:30 a.m. Its breakfast menu charges 255 pesos for the chilaquiles and 350 for the lamb version.
Country meals. An Infobae piece from May 2026 gave these ranges. Finca Altozano, Javier Plascencia's grill at km 83, has dinners at 690 to 1,040 pesos per person without wine. Salvia Blanca, 350 to 690. The restaurant at Hacienda Guadalupe, at the top of its hill, 350 to 605.
Tasting menu dinners. The pairing is separate, and the usual tip is 10 to 15%:
- Animalón, by Javier Plascencia: a six-course menu at 3,200 pesos per person and the pairing at 950, according to the menu on its site. It opens seasonally, under an oak tree, with a Michelin star in 2026. Confirm that it is open before you set dates.
- Fauna, the Bruma restaurant: tasting menu from about 1,890 to 1,970 pesos ($109), according to two food guides that agree although they show no date. The pairing is quoted separately.
- Deckman's en el Mogor, at the Mogor Badán estate: it does not publish prices. OpenTable puts it in its over-500-peso band and the Michelin Guide 2026 in the highest one.
- Laja has already closed. If an old guide recommends it, skip it.
How much does it cost to bring wine home on the plane?
At a winery's store the range is as wide as it is for hotels. L.A. Cetto's Chenin Blanc sold for under 200 pesos in online stores in September 2026. At the Monte Xanic store, the box of three Chenin Colombard was 1,184 pesos with IVA in September 2026, and the Gran Ricardo 2023, its flagship red, 2,150 pesos a bottle.
- How much wine fits: Volaris limits beverages of 24% to 70% alcohol to 5 liters (1.3 gallons) per passenger. Wine falls below that and has no liter cap, only the weight of the bag.
- How much it weighs: each full bottle weighs more than 2 lb (1 kg). In a 55 lb (25 kg) bag, well protected and with clothes, about a dozen fit (our calculation).
- Not in the cabin: liquids over 3.4 oz (100 ml) do not pass the security checkpoint. Bottles go closed and wrapped in the checked bag.

From another city, only the flight changes. Use the fares in the first section and, in August or on a long holiday weekend, expect to pay more.
Tip
Before buying the flight, book the room and the car or driver. In August they are the first things to sell out, and a boutique hotel with a two-night minimum can set your dates for you.
What should you know to spend well in the valley?
- The car's total. The comparison site's rate does not include liability or damage to the car. Ask for the total with coverage and deductible before you pay.
- Doña Esthela, early. Or on a weekday, when fewer people are expected.
- Weekday tastings. There are fewer people, but some houses open only Friday to Sunday. Check their profile.
- The harvest festival. In 2026 it ran from August 5 to 30. On a tight budget, avoid that month. If you go, book months ahead.
- Cash. For tips, seafood carts and small places that do not take cards.
- Signal. There are stretches without coverage. Download the map and save the driver's phone number before you set out.
- The driver's tip. About 10% of the service, in cash, if the day went well. On short transfers, 20 to 30 pesos per person.
- What is charged in dollars. Luxury hotels and border drivers. With a Mexican card, your bank converts at its own exchange rate.
With the total in hand, the order of purchase is room, flight, car or driver, and last tastings and dinners. To spread out the days, the weekend itinerary in Guadalupe Valley covers one zone per day, and the four-day plan between Ensenada and the valley adds the lobster of Puerto Nuevo and the seafood of the port.
