The house
At El Cielo the wines are named for what you see at night in the valley: Orión, Polaris, Perseus, Halley. The house sorts its labels into lines: a young-wine line, then Astros (heavenly bodies), Astrónomos (astronomers), Constelaciones (constellations), and Estrellas (stars), the top-ranking collection. Together they cover whites, rosés, and reds from the varieties it grows in El Porvenir.
Gustavo Ortega Joaquín built the complex around 2013, with the winery, a villa hotel, and two restaurants on the same property, at km 7.5 of the road from El Porvenir to El Tigre. Jesús Rivera leads the winemaking.
In 2025 the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles awarded medals to four of its labels: a Grand Gold Medal for Polaris 2019 and for G&G by Ginasommelier Reserva Especial 2021, and Gold for Orión 2020 and Eclipse 2021.
A visit can be a sommelier-led tasting, a tasting in the cellar among the barrels, or a ride through the vineyard in a horse-drawn cart. At harvest you can pick and stomp grapes, and the hotel, with suites spread across villas among the vineyards, lets you wake up inside the property. Reservations are made through the website, by phone, or by WhatsApp, and since both restaurants are on the same property, the afternoon can continue at the table without going back to the road.
The wines
The house tiers its wines in lines: a young one, Astros, Astrónomos, Constelaciones, and Estrellas, the top-ranking collection. Each line uses names of celestial bodies, astronomers, or constellations, and brings together whites, rosés, and reds from the varieties it grows.
