Coahuila Wineries and the Parras Wine Country, Mexico

Coahuila's wine country is centered on Parras de la Fuente, in the south of the state, where Casa Madero, considered the oldest winery in the Americas, makes wine at the Hacienda de San Lorenzo. In 1597, Lorenzo García received the land grant for Parras where he founded the hacienda, which has grown grapes and made wine ever since. In the late 19th century Evaristo Madero bought it, and Casa Madero takes its name from his family. The closest airports to Parras are in Torreón and Saltillo, and the rest of the trip is by road.

There is also wine in the Sierra de Arteaga, in the mountains of the southeast of the state, and in Cuatro Ciénegas, in the center. This guide groups the wineries by zone: Parras de la Fuente, Sierra de Arteaga, and Cuatro Ciénegas.
