The place
Banyan Tree Veya takes over the hills of El Porvenir with thirty villas, each with its own pool. They range from villas of about 1,160 square feet (108 sq m) for two, with a fireplace and a wine bar, to a three-bedroom villa of about 3,690 square feet (343 sq m). Every villa also has a terrace. The spa works with a hydrotherapy circuit and a temazcal (a traditional steam bath), and offers couples' treatments that mix Asian techniques with Mexican rituals. The resort adds seven places to eat and drink. Amapola is the fine-dining restaurant, Atalaya serves tapas at sunset, and Roka serves from silver food trucks with a 360-degree view of the mountains. Rounding out the list are Pictograma, the resort's private winery, and a bakery. Check-in is at 3 p.m. and checkout at noon, and both the restaurants and the spa require reservations. It is a hotel for staying put. Couples and families can spend the day between the villa pool, the temazcal, and the table at Amapola, and leave the rest of the valley for one or two outings.
