Zacatecas Wineries and High-Elevation Wine, Mexico
Zacatecas makes high-elevation wine on the state's altiplano, the high plateau, with vineyards between about 6,460 and 7,550 ft (1,970 and 2,300 m) around Trancoso, in Luis Moya, and in the Jerez valley. Campo Real calls its wine Tierra Adentro, after the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro that crosses the region.
This guide groups the wineries by zone: Trancoso, the Valle de las Arsinas, Luis Moya, and Jerez. Around Trancoso, Campo Real sits on the road from Ojocaliente to Trancoso, and El Consuelo is at km 158 of federal Highway 49 between San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas. Luévano Ruiz is in the Valle de Barranquillas, in the municipality of Luis Moya, about 45 minutes from the city of Zacatecas, and Raíz de Plata is in Los Haro, a community in the Jerez valley.
