The place

Animalón serves a tasting menu that changes with the season, outdoors under an oak tree. Javier Plascencia opened it in 2017 at kilometer marker 83 of the highway from Tecate to Ensenada, in Guadalupe Valley, and it is not open all year. The Michelin Guide Mexico 2026, presented on May 20, kept its star. Plascencia owns the restaurant himself, an executive chef runs the daily kitchen, and the house puts sustainability first. At the same marker is Finca Altozano, the same chef's country grill. Reservations are made online, through the restaurant's website. Before planning dinner, confirm that the season is open and that a table is available. Doors open Wednesday and Thursday from 3 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 1 p.m., and the restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday.
