A guide to the wineries of Guadalupe Valley and Baja California
Baja California's vineyards grow in a Mediterranean climate tempered by breezes off the Pacific, with dry summers, winter rain, and cool nights. Guadalupe Valley (Valle de Guadalupe) lies about 12 to 15 miles (20 to 25 km) north of Ensenada on Mexico Federal Highway 3, the road between Ensenada and Tecate. From Tijuana, it's a little over 60 miles (100 km). Many wineries give their address as a kilometer marker on that highway, so a km number in an address points to a spot on the road, not a distance to drive.
