The house
The Rivero González family began planting grapes in the Valle de Parras in 1998, among walnut orchards that still share the estate with the vines. The house was first called Bodega Rivero González and now signs its labels as RGMX. It ferments with the yeasts the grapes themselves carry and, it says, with no additives.
The winemaker Matías Utrero trained in the Uco Valley, in Mendoza, and decides the harvest date, which in Parras usually falls between late July and early August, with the grapes picked by hand. The 2021 Cabernet Franc, from the Buena Fe vineyard, and the Malbec of the same vintage won gold at the 2025 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. At México Selection 2024, the 2023 Naranja received Grand Gold.
Two wines explain the character of the house. The Naranja (orange wine) comes from white grapes that ferment with their skins and go through barrel. The Blanco is made from Cabernet Sauvignon pressed so the skin does not tint the must. Separately, the Scielo MX line covers young reds, whites, and rosés.
Visits are booked in advance. On the RG Tour, a tractor crosses the vineyard and stops at the winery and among the barrels. The tasting is of three wines and comes with local products. The create-your-wine workshop lets guests build a blend of their own with the house team, and in harvest season there are harvest experiences in Parras de la Fuente.
The wines
Everything ferments with the yeasts of the place itself. The RGMX line holds the signature labels, such as the orange wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon white, and the Cabernet Franc and Malbec varietals. Scielo MX groups young reds, whites, and rosés made for early drinking.
