The house
Infinito makes wine in Ojos Negros, cattle and cheese country east of Ensenada and far from the Guadalupe Valley wine circuit. Blends are its specialty, and its first wine was not a red but a white of Grenache Blanc and Muscat, the Supernova, which is still in the lineup and is now also made in an orange version. Among its earlier labels are Nébula, another white blend, and Actino, a red of Cabernet Sauvignon with Syrah.
Behind it is the Pedroza family. José de Jesús Pedroza Peña, a farm businessman in the region, and his son Pepe began planting in 2008, with a first 2.5 acres (1 hectare) of Malbec on their ranch. They waited several years to bottle, and the first release was in 2014. Pepe heads the winemaking, according to México Desconocido. Its website now gives 22 acres (9 hectares) of vineyard.
The range includes an Infinito Nebbiolo Reserva and a Syrah, two pet nats (naturally sparkling wines), one a rosé of Grenache and the other a red of Malbec, and the white and orange Supernovas.
The cheese and wine route links the cheese makers of Ojos Negros and its wineries in one day, along the road from Ensenada to San Felipe. Visits are booked on the winery's website: there is a traditional tour with tasting, a private experience with a sommelier and barrel tasting, and harvest events. It opens Tuesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
