The house
Serapio Ruiz Rivera spent decades in Napa, California, planting, pruning, and grafting vines before having a vineyard of his own. He came back to San Luis Soyatlán, on the south shore of Lake Chapala, and with his wife, Lupita Amezcua, founded Viñedos El Tejón more than twenty-five years ago. The Jalisco Tourism Secretariat presents it as the first vineyard on that shore.
The two of them receive visitors among the rows and explain what sets each variety apart and how wine is made. The house makes whites, rosés, and reds with Tempranillo, Sauvignon Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Syrah, Malbec, and Malvasia. The visit ends with a tasting, with home cooking if you ask when booking, and takes place by reservation only in San Luis Soyatlán, in the municipality of Tuxcueca.
