The house

Hilo Negro names its wines after stitches: Invisible, Tricot, Zigzag, Escala. There are nine labels, each with its own embroidered seam, and together they make a house that runs from blends to limited-production varietals, in Ejido El Porvenir. A piece in Crónicas del Sabor called them nine stories embroidered by hand, and Food and Wine en Español described the wines as haute couture.

The first wine came out in 2012. Daniel Lonnberg is in charge of the winemaking, and among the reds Syrah and Nebbiolo lead, together in Zigzag and Syrah on its own in Escala.

Tastings happen at Algaravino, the house's tasting room, where the most representative labels are poured one by one with small bites, and each glass arrives with the story of its stitch, so the tasting also works as a way to compare blends with varietals. Next to the room are Emat and Radix, two restaurants where you can stay for a meal in Guadalupe Valley (Valle de Guadalupe), and the house opens its spaces to events.

The winery sits at the km 11 marker of the road from Francisco Zarco to El Tigre, already on Ejido El Porvenir land. Book the tasting ahead. The room also serves pairings with the house's bites for anyone who wants to stretch the afternoon.
