The house
The family name comes from a valley, San Vicente Ferrer, south of Ensenada, where the family planted its first vines in 2005. The first labels came from there, and Tempranillo has been the house grape ever since.
The first vinification came in 2011 and the first sale in 2013, after a year in barrel and some time in bottle. For almost a decade the house made its wine at the Vinícola Santo Tomás facilities. Since 2020 it has made wine in its own winery in Guadalupe Valley (Valle de Guadalupe), with its own winemaking team, and in 2014 it planted in the valley too. Today it has about 50 acres (20 hectares) across the two areas.
The winery and the hotel sit at Rancho La Reserva, at the km 86.3 marker on the Tecate to Ensenada highway, on the El Porvenir side. The house presents itself as the joint work of growers, farmhands, winemakers, agronomists, and designers. The catalog centers on Tempranillo, with other reds such as Syrah and Merlot.
You can taste and sleep without leaving the vineyard: the hotel has ten rooms facing the vines, and the property hosts weddings and events. At the same table you can compare the San Vicente Tempranillo with the Guadalupe one, then finish with the fortified version of the same grape. The house suggests the fortified with aged cheeses or dark chocolate desserts.
The wines
Tempranillo is the axis: the house bottles it on its own, in a blend with a smaller share of another red, with 14 months in barrel, and even as a fortified wine. Other varieties, such as Syrah, round out the catalog.
