The house
The labels of the Línea Familiar at Pijoan, in Guadalupe Valley (Valle de Guadalupe), carry women's names: Leonora, the founder's wife, and their daughters Silvana, Paula, and Doménica. The second generation now signs its own wines.
Pau Pijoan, a Mexican of Catalan descent, is a veterinary researcher. He came to wine in his forties, first as a hobby: in 1999 he took Hugo D'Acosta's winemaking course at La Escuelita, and in 2002 he founded the winery. He named the first red Leonora and the later ones after his children. The house sums up its idea in one word, honesty.
Silvana Pijoan, who was a dancer before she became a winemaker, moved the winery toward natural wines starting in 2017, with an organically managed vineyard where vines grow alongside plants native to Baja California. In 2019 she launched her own label, Árbol de Fuego, which is also sold in natural wine shops in the United States.
Tastings are held on a covered patio with a view of the Sierra Blanca, or at the indoor bar, and dogs are allowed. Reservations are made by phone or WhatsApp at the winery's number, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also on the table are the Pelón line and a house vermouth, and the 2025 vintages have already crossed the border to shops in the United States.
The wines
The Línea Familiar brings together red blends, such as the Cabernet and Merlot Leonora, and a dry white, Silvana. Since 2017 the house has also made natural wines, and it adds the Pelón line and a vermouth.
