The house
Baja and guadalupano (of Guadalupe), fused into one word: that is the name the winery was born with in 2014, in Ejido El Porvenir. It is a small house that does not stay in its own valley. It buys and works grapes from Guadalupe, San Vicente, and Ojos Negros to build a broad range of single-variety wines, with winemaker Sergio Heras at the helm.
Its reds take patience. The house says its reds spend about fifteen months in French oak barrels and twenty-one more in bottle before release, and it rounds out the range with whites, rosés, and a sparkling wine. The winery is at the km 3.6 marker of the road to Francisco Zarco. Its website offers tastings and a reservation link but does not publish hours, so it is best to call and reserve.
The wines
Single-variety wines and long-aged reds: the house counts about 15 months in barrel and 21 in bottle for its main line. It rounds out the range with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay whites, a rosé, and a sparkling wine.
