The house

Juan Carlos Bravo grew up in Ejido El Porvenir, among the same vines he now turns into wine. His house focuses on two grapes, Carignan and Palomino, and bottles each on its own.

The story begins in 1944, when his grandfather bought the land and planted varieties brought from Spain. For decades the family sold its grapes to other wineries. Juan Carlos's father kept up the vineyard and he learned the trade in the field, until in 1999 he enrolled in the valley's local wine school and in 2001 bottled his first Carignan.

Everything comes from that property, in small runs. Carignan is the grape with the biggest production. Palomino, the Andalusian variety that in Jerez goes into fino sherry, is bottled here as a still wine, and in 2023 it won bronze at the Sommeliers Choice Awards. These are the vines the grandfather and the father planted, and for years the fruit that went, with no name on the label, to other wineries in the valley.

These are grapes that reached the valley before the fashion for French varieties. They are poured in a tasting room with a hacienda feel, and the tasting is short and clear: the Carignan red and the Palomino white, one after the other. Opening days change, and the house announces them on social media.

The wines

Two wines from a single family estate: a Carignan red, the grape of the house's biggest production, and a Palomino white, an Andalusian variety that in Jerez goes into fino sherry and is bottled here as a still wine.
