The house
From a hill, the terrace of the winery at Hacienda San José Lavista looks out toward San Miguel de Allende and the Presa Allende reservoir. Although the estate hosts weddings, what is served on the terrace comes from its own vineyard.

The winemaking is led by Hugo D'Acosta, a winemaker and agronomist who founded Casa de Piedra and the trade school in El Porvenir, in Guadalupe Valley. At this Guanajuato estate he works only with the grapes of the estate vineyard.
The house started from scratch in 2010 and planted Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Malbec around the winery. A full line comes out of it under the Lavista brand. The list opens with the Primer Lavista Sauvignon Blanc, goes on with the Merlot and the Malbec, adds the red Assemblage and the rosé, and ends with two sparkling wines, and everything is sold at the house shop.
The restaurant occupies a floor of the winery, with Mexican and international fusion cooking and vegetables and flowers from its organic garden. Above it there is a bar on the terrace, and the colonial-style suites have a private terrace overlooking the vineyard, plus a pool and gardens.
A sommelier leads the tour of the vineyard and winery, which closes with a tasting on the terrace and local snacks. There are also barrel tastings and private tastings in the cellar, all by reservation.
The wines
The range is short and varied, all under the Lavista brand, and includes a Sauvignon Blanc white, Merlot and Malbec reds, a red blend, a rosé, and two sparkling wines. The house makes wine only from the grapes of its own vineyard.
