The house
At the Casa Anza family ranch in San Miguel de Allende, the family raises thoroughbred horses, plants crops, and also makes wine. In the winery, fermentation takes place in cocciopesto tanks (a mortar of lime and crushed terracotta) and finishes in terracotta. The ranch house was built in the 1970s in the style of the homes in downtown San Miguel and was remodeled late in the 20th century.
The vineyard sits at about 6,820 ft (2,080 m), on silt and clay soil, with grafted vines that came from the Mercier nursery in Bordeaux. Its labels, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a blended rosé, are sold at shops that carry Mexican wine.
