The house
Guanamé was born on a dairy ranch in northern Guanajuato and reached the top of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. In 2024, at the first edition held in the Americas, based in Guanajuato, its red Pájaro Azul 2020 took a Grand Gold Medal, and in 2026 the 2023 vintage of the same wine won gold again, while its 2025 Sauvignon Blanc and its 2024 Alto Nido Indigo added silvers.
It was founded in 2011 by the Torres Barrera family, third and fourth generation of farmers and ranchers at Rancho Pájaro Azul, in the Valle de Jaral de Berrio, municipality of San Felipe. They saw that the soil and microclimate of their land, at about 5,900 ft (1,800 m), suited the vine, and that same year they planted Syrah.
Between 2012 and 2014 they added Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo. Today the house bottles varietals and blends under the Guanamé brand, with Pájaro Azul at the head, which takes its name from the ranch the grapes come from, and a Sauvignon Blanc with a Grand Gold at the Bacchus competition, in Madrid, in 2024.
The trip takes you far from the San Miguel de Allende circuit, to the high plateau of the north of the state, on the way to San Luis Potosí. Visits tour the vineyard and the winery, end with a tasting, and are booked online.
