The house

Aarón Piña Mora, the muralist who painted the history of Chihuahua in the Palacio de Gobierno, was also a wine enthusiast, and his family gave his name to a vineyard. The first wines were shared among relatives and friends as Don Aarón, and the Piñamora brand was registered later, in his memory.

In March 1993 Sergio Leonardo Piña Marshall and his wife, Sandra Luz Gardea de Piña, planted the first 1,500 vines on a limestone slope of the Sierra de Sacramento, at about 5,250 ft (1,602 m), within the municipality of Chihuahua. It is land with history, the Sacramento where a battle of the Mexican-American War was fought. The first harvests were made with help from neighbors and academics, and over time Syrah, Tempranillo, and Cabernet Sauvignon emerged as the grapes best suited to the vineyard.

Its medals come from those three varieties. The 2016 Syrah won gold at the China Wine & Spirits Awards in 2019 and at the Las Vegas Global Wine Awards in 2021, and that year the New York International Wine Competition gave gold to the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon and named Piñamora Mexico's winery of the year for Cabernet Sauvignon. The catalog also includes a Montepulciano, a Sangiovese, and a Chardonnay.

The house says it avoids enological corrections and concentrates on caring for the vineyard. To get to know it, the date to visit is the August harvest festival, with tastings, vineyard tours, and music.
