The house
The Cuadra family, behind a leather goods group, ties its winery to Villa Petriolo, a wine estate in Tuscany, and says it searched the Bajío mountains for the altitude, climate, and soil to follow that craft in Mexico. They found them next to Comonfort.
The vineyard covers 128 acres (52 hectares) among olive trees and lavender, with thirteen varieties of which Chardonnay, Malbec, Syrah, and Merlot are the most planted. Among the wines are blends such as the Blend, of five varieties, and the Blancs, a white of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Semillón aged in barrel. In the barrel room rest about 500 barrels, 400 of French oak and 100 of American.
A good part of the recent awards bears the signature of Abisaí Vargas, a winemaker born in Comonfort who joined the project from the construction of the winery and whom the group sponsored to study enology in Seville. He died in September 2024, at age 28.
In 2025 the 2019 Blend Reserva won gold at the Decanter World Wine Awards, and in 2026 the 2023 Syrah received Grand Gold at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. That year the Asociación de Sommeliers Mexicanos named it Winery of the Year.
You can visit Wednesday through Sunday. Tastings are booked ahead. Soy Degustador is the introduction, with three wines, and Soy Catador compares styles with four.
