The house

The walnut groves of General Cepeda ran short of water, and that scarcity led Salomón Abedrop López to study the soil, the water, and the climate before putting vines where there had been orchard. The project, which began with about 200 acres (80 hectares) of walnut trees, is now Hacienda Florida.

The house planted Grenache, Shiraz, and Mourvèdre in 2012 alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, with plant material brought from France, and brought in its first harvest in August 2014. The name recalls La Florida, the old hacienda that occupied this land. Its first wine was already a blend of the five grapes, and that idea still shapes the red labels.

About 49 acres (20 hectares) of vineyard sit at km 22 on the highway from Saltillo to Torreón, in the semi-desert of General Cepeda, outside the usual Parras circuit. According to Abedrop himself, between afternoon and early morning the thermometer can drop 45°F (25°C), and irrigation is by drip.

In 2023 the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles gave gold to the Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2019 and silver to the Cabernet Sauvignon 2020. The range is completed by a rosé and a Verdejo white.

The house receives visits with a walk through the vineyard, a stop at the winery, and a tasting, and sells its recent vintages in its online shop.

The wines

Blending rules. Its first wine joined Malbec, Grenache, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Mourvèdre, and today its red labels follow that line, from Cabernet Sauvignon with Shiraz to a blend of four Mediterranean grapes. The range is completed by a varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, a rosé, and a Verdejo white.
