The house
Francisco Andonegui and a Spaniard, Miguel Ormart, bought land in the Santo Tomás valley, south of the port, in 1888, a few years after Ensenada was founded. They wanted to plant vines and make wine. The house has changed hands and scale since then, but not valleys, and today it is part of Grupo Pando.

Few winemakers have led the cellar, and each has carried weight. In 2000 Laura Zamora took over, having come to the winery as a lab technician. In 2019 she was succeeded by Cristina Pino, a winemaker from Extremadura, in Spain, trained at the University of Extremadura, who reached Baja California in 2011 and had worked at Monte Xanic. In 2025 Lulú Martínez Ojeda joined as consulting winemaker. Trained in Bordeaux, she has led the winemaking at Bruma, and the Asociación de Sommeliers Mexicanos named her Winemaker of the Year in 2026.
The catalog is broad and runs from everyday wine to the most ambitious labels. There is room to experiment too: Entre Santos is an experimental series made by three women winemakers in Ensenada. The two benchmark reds are the Único and the Duetto.
Three doors open onto Santo Tomás. The Miramar cellar stands right downtown in Ensenada, where many visitors and cruise ship passengers arrive. The winery in Valle de Santo Tomás occupies the original site, about 31 miles (50 km) south of the port. The San Antonio de las Minas cellar is on the road to Guadalupe Valley. All three offer guided tours and tastings, and booking ahead is wise.
