The house
Donald Miller, a retired banker, and his wife, Tru, lost their son Arlo in a car accident. In the late 1990s they built an adobe house with a vineyard in his memory in Guadalupe Valley (Valle de Guadalupe), which is why the wines carry the names of archangels, the company the owners wished for him.

A pair of wings tops the tower of the house, the mark that sets the winery apart. The first wines were made under the direction of Hugo D'Acosta, and today the winemaking is run by Daniel Lonnberg, a Chilean who worked alongside D'Acosta for years and signs the house blends.
The vineyard grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, Malbec, Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Viognier. Among pomegranate and olive orchards, the estate raises Azteca horses that lead rides through the vines. The wines rest 10 to 13 months in French oak barrels, according to the label.
You can taste at the shop without a reservation, or in the winery, where five wines are poured for groups of 2 to 15 people by appointment. The rules ask guests to arrive ten minutes early and to leave children and pets at home. The house also serves breakfast, lunch from Thursday through Sunday, and a five-course dinner with wine pairings, and it has an adobe inn on the property.
