The place
From an office in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Viajes Macaro sells a one-day tour of Guadalupe Valley that leaves from Tijuana. It departs every day at 9 a.m., with a minimum of two passengers, and picks up at the airport, at the hotel, or at the border crossing. It returns around 7:30 p.m. The route starts on the Autopista Escénica (the Scenic Highway), with a stop at El Mirador, above the Pacific. At L.A. Cetto you see how the wine is made and taste four wines. At Sol de Medianoche you try young wines next to an artisan market of cheese, bread, olives, jams, and olive oil. At Vinos Barón Balché, a boutique winery, you tour the process and taste three young wines. The last stop is Puerto Nuevo, for lobster with rice and beans. Lunch is not included. The tour includes transportation with passenger insurance and tastings at three wineries. The agency recommends having breakfast before leaving and being ready at pickup time. The agency is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
