The house
Vinícola Diez González has no vineyard. It has a winery inside Chihuahua City and a fixed idea about desert grapes, which the house says ripen with so much sugar that its wines come out intense and powerful.
The story starts on a road. In 2017, on the way to Santiago de Compostela, Gustavo Diez González Cárdenas met a friend who promised to teach him to make wine. In 2018 he learned, and in a large old house in the San Felipe neighborhood they began fermenting Malbec, Shiraz, Cabernet, and Merlot. Since then it has been a family business that buys grapes from growers in the state, such as the Tempranillo that comes from the Delicias region.
The catalog is short. Diacronía, a blend of 75 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 25 percent Shiraz, is the label the house considers its flagship, and its online shop currently offers the Reserva version of the 2023 vintage. Next come a varietal Shiraz and Tempranillo and a rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, Orgullo y Prejuicio (Pride and Prejudice). They are available in the house's online shop and at several points of sale in Chihuahua.
The tasting at the winery lasts about an hour and a half. The house winemaker explains the winemaking, and the wines are tried straight from the tank. The tasting is reserved in advance, online.
