The house
A 2018 Viognier won silver at the Mexican edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in 2019, barely a year after López Rosso Cavas put its first bottles on sale. Behind it is a Zacatecas family that has grown grapes for more than three decades in the Valle de las Arsinas, in Zacatecas, which neighboring wineries spell Arcinas.
Isauro López Muñoz started the winery in 2010, with guidance from Dr. Joaquín Madero Tamargo, the winemaking consultant who also signs the Campo Real wines. After years of trials in the vineyard itself, at about 7,200 ft (2,200 m), with fertile soil, intense sun, and a dry climate, they confirmed that the valley was suited to vines. Its first labels were a Syrah, a Merlot, a Viognier, and a three-grape white.
The wines
Reds and whites alike, with varietals of Syrah, Merlot, and Viognier and a white that blends Viognier, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. The Viognier is the label that has earned its first prizes.
