The house
The 1870 eruption of the Ceboruco left Jala with volcanic soil famous for its giant corn, and since 2019 for its vines too. The winemaker Gilberto Gangoiti planted what is considered the first vineyard in Nayarit there, in Cofradía de Juanacatlán, at about 6,200 ft (1,900 m), with around 10 acres (4 hectares) of Syrah, Malbec, and Macabeo.
The state's first commercial wines under this label came out in 2022, and the 2022 Syrah won silver, with 89 points, in the Top 99 Vinos Mexicanos 2023 of Cava magazine, the year the Consejo Mexicano Vitivinícola (the Mexican Wine Council) counted Nayarit among the producing states. Since 2023 it has received visitors on Saturdays and Sundays, with tastings, guided tours, and wine afternoons, a short distance from Jala.
The wines
Syrah is the flagship of this high-altitude volcanic vineyard, and beside it is a hibiscus wine, Santa Sirena, which the house presents as exclusive to its vineyard.
