Editorial review · reviewed on October 11, 2026In 2008 a group of partners wanted to know whether the lands of the old Villa de Carrión, today Atlixco, could produce a Puebla wine. They planted Malbec on French and American rootstocks, in a soil that the ash of the Popocatépetl enriches with minerals, and from there comes Ceniza d'Volcán, the wine that carries the volcano in its name.
The vineyard, which advertises itself as the first in Atlixco, opened to the public in 2023 with guided tours, tastings, and rooms for weddings and events with the Popocatépetl in the background. It is in La Trinidad Tepango, within the municipality, less than an hour from the city of Puebla on the Vía Atlixcáyotl.
