The house

Horses made Hacienda Atongo famous in colonial times, the house says, and the vines came much later. Around the main compound, about 12 acres (5 hectares) were planted in 2015 and about 5 more (2 hectares) in 2020, with Chenin Blanc, Malbec, Merlot, and Nebbiolo. The hacienda is in El Marqués, about 30 minutes from downtown Querétaro, and those grapes yield a white, a rosé, and young and aged reds.

The tour starts at the main house, with its viceregal history, continues by vehicle to the vineyard, and ends with a tasting of the house labels. It lasts about two hours, and there are versions with a sommelier and blind tastings. The hacienda also has a restaurant, a cantina (a traditional bar), and a boutique hotel, and every year it celebrates its vendimia.
