REVIEWS

Community rules

This English translation is for information only. The Spanish version is the legally binding notice. Normas de la comunidad (in Spanish)

Cities and Wines brings together people who take Mexican wine seriously. These rules exist so that each review is useful to whoever is planning a visit and fair to whoever receives it. They apply to reviews, winery replies, profiles and public names.

Every review is first checked by an artificial intelligence system using these same public rules, without knowing whether the winery pays for a plan. If you disagree with a decision, ask for a second review: a person makes the final decision on an appeal.

To write a review

  • You are 18 or older and have a single account.
  • You tell about your own visit of the last 24 months. One review per winery; if you return, edit it.
  • You have no relationship with the winery: you do not work and did not work there in the last 24 months, you are not a partner, a relative of the owners or a supplier, you do not buy wine from it to resell it and you do not work at another winery in its region.
  • Nobody gave you or promised you anything for reviewing. If the winery invited you without asking anything of you, mark it as a courtesy visit. The same if you used a free tasting or visit as a benefit for enthusiasts with an account.

What we do not publish

  1. Reviews with a conflict of interest, or written on commission from the winery or its competition.
  2. Reviews in exchange for something: discounts, tastings, bottles, raffles or refunds.
  3. What is not your experience: news, rumors, protests, what happened to someone else or opinions about another business.
  4. Personal data: surnames, phone numbers, emails, addresses, license plates or reservation details, yours or other people's. You may mention someone on the team by first name to recognize their work.
  5. Insults, discrimination, harassment, sexual or violent content.
  6. Threats or conditions, such as «I will raise my rating if they refund me…». Conditioning a review on receiving something is extortion.
  7. Accusations of crimes or health risks. «The wine was oxidized» or «they charged me for two tastings and we only had one» are published. «It is a scam» or «adulterated wine», no: tell what happened. If there was a crime or harm to your health, go to Profeco, Cofepris or the prosecutor's office.
  8. Irresponsible consumption: celebrating excess, driving after drinking or minors drinking.
  9. Advertising: links, discount codes or promotion of other businesses.
  10. Copied or repeated texts, from other sites, from other people or across several wineries.

We do not correct reviews: if something does not comply, we tell you what and quote the passage, and you decide whether to fix it.

For wineries

  • They may reply once to each review, for free and with any plan. The reply cannot reveal the person's data, offer anything in exchange for changing the review or advertise. The system also checks it before it is published.
  • They may ask for reviews with their link from everyone who visits, with the same message and after the visit. They cannot offer anything in exchange, invite only those who left happy, ask for reviews to be written on their devices or in front of their staff, dictate the text or ask employees, relatives or suppliers for reviews.
  • They cannot offer anything in exchange for withdrawing or changing a review, or pressure whoever wrote it.
  • They may report reviews that break these rules. A report does not take a review down: we check it.

No paid plan changes the stars, the order by rating or the Enthusiasts' Choice.

What happens if they are not followed

  • Reviews and replies: they are not published or are withdrawn, always with the reason.
  • Accounts: first a warning; then reinforced review of everything you publish for 90 days; then a 30-day suspension; finally, removal. Multiple accounts, bought reviews, sabotage or extortion lead to direct removal. A person decides these measures.
  • Wineries: the affected reviews are withdrawn and, depending on seriousness, their link to ask for reviews is suspended and they are left out of the Enthusiasts' Choice of that year and the next. We sanction a winery only with evidence attributable to it, signed by two people. It applies the same with or without a paid plan.

If you disagree

Ask for a second review within 14 days of the notice, from your account. First the system looks at it again with your explanation; if it does not publish your review, the final decision is made by a member of the team, within 10 business days at most.

For removals on legal grounds (personal data, intimate content, threats or orders from an authority) use the legal notice form.

Last updated: October 1, 2026. If we change these rules, we will give 15 days' notice.
