The place

Rancho Tecate Resort is at the km 10 marker of Mexico Federal Highway 3, on the outskirts of Tecate, and its website calls it the north gate of the wine route. The hotel has 12 boutique-style rooms and three contemporary villas, surrounded by lakes, vineyards, and gardens. Rooms come with a minibar holding two bottles of water, a coffee maker, a flat-screen TV with cable, an iron, a safe, internet, robes, air conditioning, and heating. An underground cellar stores Mexican and imported wines, and the house wines are made under the Encino de Piedra label. The restaurant, Puerta Norte, serves chef-driven cooking in the style of a country grill, with pastries and a sports bar, and serves wines from its own harvest. The ranch also hosts weddings and events, with ceremonies among the vineyards, gardens, and covered halls. For anyone entering the route through Tecate, it sits right at the start of the road.

It is part of Encino de Piedra, which has its own page in the guide: see the winery Encino de Piedra.
