The house
At Decantos the wine is not pumped, it flows down. The winery the Granados family finished building in August 2015 in Ejido El Porvenir has several levels, and the wine moves from one to the next by gravity. The house calls it its signature and says it is a pioneer in working this way.
Winemaking is led by founding winemaker Alonso Granados. The range is organized by aging in three lines, Joven (young), Roble (oak), and Reserva, almost always single-variety, with Malbec, Merlot, Graciano, Chenin Blanc, Colombard, and Sauvignon Blanc.
The Roble line is the most curious. It puts varieties you hardly see in the valley through oak, such as Graciano, a grape from Rioja, Chenin Blanc, or French Colombard.
The visit follows the same path as the wine, from top to bottom: it crosses the production area, goes down to the underground cellar, and climbs back up to the terrace overlooking Guadalupe Valley (Valle de Guadalupe), where you can have a glass or a tasting and eat from the restaurant's own menu. It is open every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with reservations by phone or email. The winery is at Rancho San Miguel, inside Ejido El Porvenir. It hosts events and sells through its online shop, and the local press has already marked its first ten years.
