The house
Nicole Martain and Álvaro Romero founded Valle de Tintos in 2014, in El Sauzal. Wine runs in her family: her father, Fernando Martain, founded Cavas Valmar in 1983. The house began with reds only, a Cabernet and Merlot blend, a Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Tempranillo, plus a rosé, and in 2015 it added a Chenin Blanc with a touch of barrel aging.

The grapes come from the San Vicente, Santo Tomás, and Tecate valleys in 40-pound (18 kg) crates, ferment in steel tanks, and are pressed at low pressure. The reds age in French and American oak. Macramé, made entirely from San Vicente Chenin Blanc, captures the style the press recognizes in the house: clean fruit and fresh acidity. We have not yet confirmed how the winery receives visitors.
