The house

Almost every winery in Ensenada looks toward the valleys. This one looks at the sea. It sits in El Tigre, on the free road (the non-toll highway) from Tijuana to Ensenada, with the Pacific in view, and its vineyard grows under an ocean influence that, according to the house, softens the climate's extremes and lengthens the ripening of the grapes.

Winery, hotel, and residences share the property. The first harvest was in 2009, and today about 64,200 plants are in production, equal to 41 acres (16.5 hectares), 82 percent red varieties and 18 percent white. The winery processes all the grapes from the property under the supervision of winemaker Horacio Reyner Portes Gil.

The day comes together in several ways. There is a guided tasting of four wines with a bite for each, the panoramic Bura bar with an ocean view, and lodging among the vineyards, in glamping tents, hillside rooms, and villas for families. The tasting is booked in advance, and the property also hosts celebrations. A private three-day getaway with a concierge is available too.

In the glass you get what a coastal vineyard gives, far from the heat of Guadalupe Valley (Valle de Guadalupe), and the tasting ends with a nod to the north, the Norteado. Between the glamping tents, hillside rooms, and three-bedroom villas for six people, there is room for anything from a couple to a family.

The wines
