The house
Roganto sits outside the Guadalupe Valley postcard. Its home is south of Ensenada, in the El Ciprés neighborhood, and its own vineyard lies farther south still, in Valle de San Jacinto, where Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc grow.
Two Ensenada neighbors, Rogelio Sánchez del Palacio and Antonio Luis Escalante Domínguez, started it in 1987. The first commercial harvest took fourteen years and came in 2001 with barely 125 cases. In 2024, according to the winery, its capacity was around 30,000 cases.
On top of the San Jacinto fruit, it buys grapes from nearly every valley in the area: Guadalupe Valley, Valle de Santo Tomás, San Antonio de las Minas, Ojos Negros, and San Vicente. That adds up to a long catalog, from whites of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay to reds of Nebbiolo, Syrah, and Malbec, plus Bordeaux-style blends. Its most decorated label is the Mezcla Bordalesa Gran Reserva, with golds at Ensenada Tierra del Vino in 2009 and 2012 and at the Zarcillo competition in 2018, the latter for the 2015 vintage. The winery has fermentation rooms, a lab, barrel aging, a tasting area, and bottling.
Its website announces a new winery on the wine route of Guadalupe Valley (Valle de Guadalupe). Until it opens, the house does not publish visiting hours, so calling ahead is the safe bet.
