The house

Alejandro and Rodolfo Cabello Pasini are both the growers and the owners of Fratelli Pasini, running the vineyard and the winemaking themselves from start to finish. The family says it began dreaming of the project half a century ago, and today it signs its wines with the family name. It is a winery at family scale, and everything it bottles comes from its own vineyard.

The company was formed on June 22, 2009. It started with few vines and grew until it had a winery with room for about 60,000 bottles and an underground cellar where the wines age and rest. The brothers also write: the house blog explains the vineyard, the grape varieties, and the rules of wine in Mexico.

The vineyard, about 17 acres (7 hectares), is in San Antonio de las Minas, within the Guadalupe Valley (Valle de Guadalupe) wine region. Eight varieties grow there: Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo, Syrah, Grenache, Barbera, Petite Sirah, and Sauvignon Blanc, a mix that joins a taste for Italian and Spanish grapes with the French ones.

Tastings are unhurried, in a small winery with a view over the valley, and by reservation only: three house wines with regional cheeses, or wine with chocolate. From the Artigiano line you can compare a Nebbiolo and a Cabernet Sauvignon from the same land, or try its blend of equal parts Tempranillo and Grenache.

The wines

Reds from its own vineyard, both single-variety and blended, under the Artigiano line: Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo, and a blend of Tempranillo with Grenache. The house also bottles a white and the red Testadura.
