The house
An old oak overruled the blueprint. The Bruma winery was built around it, with secondhand wood, steel, and concrete, and the cellar sank underground with a pool of water for a roof to keep the temperature low. The architect was Alejandro D'Acosta, of the Taller de Arquitectura Contextual.
Behind the project is a group of eight friends, led by Juan Pablo Arroyuelo. On the same property, in Francisco Zarco, sit the winery, the boutique hotel, and Fauna, the restaurant of chefs David Castro Hussong and Maribel Aldaco, which made the Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants list in 2023.
The wines are signed by Lulú Martínez Ojeda, a winemaker born in Ensenada, trained in Bordeaux, with experience at Château Brane-Cantenac. The range is long and playful in its names: the Ocho line, a white made from red grapes, the Plan B of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Nebbiolo, and the Casa Jipi line with an orange wine.
A visit can be an afternoon or a full stay. There are tastings in a private room with artisanal cheeses and cured meats, a tour of the winery and the cellar, lunch at Fauna, and nights at Casa 8, a villa of eight suites among oaks and vines, or in the rest of the hotel. The online store ships wine throughout Mexico.
