The house
Sitara Pérez came to Guadalupe Valley (Valle de Guadalupe) in 2012 to learn the trade from the inside, and that same year she filled her first six barrels. She is American, from a family that is Mexican on her father's side. Since then she has bought grapes from vineyards around the valley and worked them in small lots, mostly Syrah and Grenache for the reds and rosés, plus white blends for her La Chula line.
Every wine carries a woman's name, from La Traviesa to La Atrevida, and the story behind each label, a tribute to the winemaker's friends, is part of the tasting. The whites are picked by hand and skip malolactic fermentation to stay fresh. The reserve red, by contrast, spends two years in large American oak barrels. Among the reds is La Traviesa, a Grenache, and among the rosés RebelGirl, a Syrah.
The tasting room is called El Corcho Rosa and sits in Ejido El Porvenir, a farming community's shared land, on the road to El Cielo. Follow the pink signs to find it. Along with tastings there is food and, some days, live music, in a mood closer to a gathering of friends than to the protocol of the big wineries.
In 2025 Sitara's story reached San Diego public television, on KPBS's travel series Crossing South.
