The house
Long before organic became a topic in Guadalupe Valley (Valle de Guadalupe), Doña Lupe was already farming without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Born in Sonora, on the banks of the Yaqui River, she came to this ranch that her husband bought in 1968 and, by then a widow, turned it into a working orchard and garden with a vineyard, fruit trees, and vegetables. Her wines, all reds, are made with no added sulfites.
Her family runs it today. At the km 73.5 marker of the Tecate to Ensenada highway there is a shop with jams, salsas, olives, olive oil, bread, and cheeses from the ranch, a pizzeria, and tastings of its reds. The house says on Facebook that it opens every day, holidays included.
