TOP DISTINCTION

Cities and Wines of Mexico Top Distinction

Ver en español

The Top Distinction recognizes, nationwide, wineries that won the Enthusiasts' Choice of the same year. It uses the same data: the reviews that count, from visits of the year evaluated. It is awarded only if there are at least 10 winners of the Choice.

  • Top Nacional (National Top)The winners with the best adjusted average, up to half of them and a maximum of 25.
  • Mejor Atención (Best Service)The best rated for service, with at least 8 reviews that rate it.
  • Experiencia Completa (Complete Experience)The top rated among those that offer lodging or a restaurant according to their profile.
  • Gran Casa Ciudades y Vinos de México (Great House)Great for its wine and its experience, not for its size. Among the winners with fewer reviews than half of the eligible wineries of their region, it recognizes those with the best rating for wines and experience. It asks for at least 3 reviews with a photo, one in four, and at least 5 that did not arrive through their link, 40%. Up to 3 in the country and one per region.

There are no winners yet: this page explains how they will be chosen.

Gran Casa Ciudades y Vinos de México

It recognizes the houses that stand out for the quality of their wine and their experience without having to be big. We do not ask for hectares, bottles produced or any other production figure: only the enthusiasts' reviews count. A winner of the Choice receives it if it meets all four criteria:

  1. Quality of the wine and the experience. They are ordered by the adjusted average of the «wines» and «experience» aspects of the reviews that count. At least 5 reviews that rate the wines are needed; the experience is always rated.
  2. Small house. It has fewer reviews that count than the median of the eligible wineries of its region, that is, the middle figure: half have more and the other half, fewer. If its region has fewer than 5 eligible wineries, it is compared with the median of all the eligible ones in the country. This rewards boutique houses without asking them for any figure.
  3. Trust. At least 3 reviews with an approved photo and one in four as a minimum, and at least 5 reviews that did not arrive through the winery's own link and 40% as a minimum. That way it cannot be inflated.
  4. Eligibility. Only among the winners of the Enthusiasts' Choice, like the other categories of the Distinction.

The best one is taken from each region; among them, the 3 best in the country. If there is a tie at the cutoff, all the tied wineries are included. If none qualifies, the category is left empty and the page says so. It is always presented together with the Top Distinction of the year, never alone.

  • If there is a tie for the last place, all the tied wineries are included. A category with no wineries that qualify is left empty, and we say so.
  • It cannot be bought or depend on a plan: no winery obtains it or keeps it by hiring anything. Each winner receives a physical plaque of the Distinction as a gift.
  • It is withdrawn only if manipulation is confirmed in its period, and we say so publicly. It reflects the reviews published on Cities and Wines. It is the official distinction of Cities and Wines of Mexico: it is awarded by the portal, not by any authority.
  • In force. Methodology in force since November 28, 2026. If we change it, we will say so here with the date and what changed.
